Love
Two hands, holding onto each other tight;
Love is honey on a pair of lips,
Onto a tender heart it drips;
Love is a soft and gentle touch;
Your heart, a child's hand may clutch,
Love is a song that stains the air,
Dead or not, it's always there;
Love is both the sun and moon,
Across the sky, like stars, it's strewn;
Love is a tree of abundant fruit,
Giving and serving with every new shoot;
Love is a document, faithful and strong,
To one another, now do you belong;
Love is a river that rages with passion,
Finding ways to calm pools no matter the fashion.

Mother
She wiped away my tears
Showed me there's nothing to fear
Always used to boast
When she held me close
And always said
I love you
My mother was to me
Someone I could never be
That's ok
She was she
And I was me
That's ok
Whenever I made a mess
She never loved me less
Only more
If ever she gave me a test
I never really tried my best
I failed
I'm sorry
I loved you more than any know
Even when you didn't give me room to grow
You tried to shield me from the world
Like some great overlord
Thank you
Mom
You wiped away my tears
Showed me there's nothing to fear
Always used to boast
When you held me close
And always used to say
I love you
I'm sorry
Show me there's nothing to fear
Getting to boast
When you hold me close
But I will always say
I love you Mom

To My Self - Failure is Pending Success
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twist and its turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When they might have won, had stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a fain and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse that you must not quit!
Start Where You Stand
A good motivational poem about leaving the past behind and looking to the future today.
Start where you stand and never mind the past;
The past won't help you in beginning new,
If you have left it all behind at last
Why that's enough, you're done with it, you're through;
This is another chapter in the book,
This is another race that you have planned,
Don't give the vanished days a backwards look,
Start where you stand.
The world won't care about your old defeats
If you can start anew and win success;
The future is your time, and time is fleet
And there is much of work and strain and stress;
Forget the buried woes and dead despairs,
Here is a brand-new trial right at hand,
The future is for him who does and dares,
Start where you stand.
Old failures will not hald, old triumphs aid,
To-day's the thing, tomorrow will soon be;
Get in the fight, and face it unafraid,
And leave the past to ancient history.
What has been has been; yesterday is dead
And by it, you are neither blessed or banned;
Take courage, man, be brave and drive ahead,
Start where you stand.
This Year Is Yours
New Year's or for anytime you decide to make a fresh start. It's amazing what you can accomplish in a year's time when you really try.
God built and launched thisyear for you;
Upon the bridge you stand;
It's your ship, aye, your own ship,
And you are in command.
Just what the twelve months' trip will do
Rests wholly, solely, friend, with you.
Your logbook kept from day to day
My friend, what will it show?
Have you on your appointed way
Made progress, yes or no?
The log will tell, like guiding star,
The sort of captain that you are.
For weal or woe this year is yours;
Your ship is on life's sea
Your acts, as captain, must decide
Whichever it shall be;
So now in starting on your trip,
Ask God to help you sail your ship.
Yesterdays Doors
Shutting the door on yesterday opens your mind and spirit up for today!
I’ve shut the door on Yesterday,
It's sorrows and mistakes.
I’ve locked within its gloomy walls
Past failures and heartaches.
And now I throw the key away,
To seek another room,
And furnish it with hope and smiles
And every springtime bloom.
No thought shall enter this Abode
That has a hint of pain;
And envy, malice and distrust
Shall never entrance gain.
I’ve shut the door on Yesterday
And thrown the key away -
Tomorrow holds no fear for me
Since I have found Today.
A New Day
We never know what life has in store for us. A new day brings new hopes and new dreams.
If life seems at its lowest ebb,
Because a day's gone wrong.
Let not your heart be troubled,
For a new day soon will dawn
And we can never be quite sure,
Just what it has in store.
Since each one is so different,
Than the one just gone before
As it penetrates the darkness,
With its soft and tranquil beams.
It calms even the most restless soul,
And brings new hopes and dreams
So when a days been troubled,
And the night is dark and long.
Lift up your fallen spirits,
For a new day soon will dawn
Rise Above
The world is full of people,
Content to be what they are
Who never know the joy of success;
They lack the will to go that far.
Yet in this world there is a need,
For some to lead the rest
To rise above the average life,
By giving of their best.
Are you the one who dares,
To try when challenged by the task
To rise to heights you've never dreamed,
Or is that too much to ask?
This can be your year,
For great purpose to achieve
If you accept the challenge,
And in yourself believe.
Another Chance
often we wish for another chance
To make a fresh beginning.
A chance to blot out our mistakes
And change failure into winning.
It does not take a new day
To make a brand new start,
It only takes a deep desire
To try with all our heart.
To live a little better
And to always be forgiving
And to add a little sunshine
To the world in which we're living.
So never give up in despair
And think that you are through,
For there's always a tomorrow
And the hope of starting new.
Sunday
Life
that tried to push the clouds away
I was the sand that ran between your toes
when you were four years old
that soon became the rain you danced in
from seven to eleven
And I watched you grow in the glow
of a moon that beamed
when you turned thirteen
How unfair you thought I'd become
when you turned twenty-one
because you lost a few dreams
But I stayed awake when you were out late
I was the stars 'till you turned twenty-eight
And when you found your love
"the one"
I was glimmer in the eye, the blue sky, the sun
Then you turned thirty-one
I became cloud, thunder and shower
there weren't enough minutes to put in your hour
You forgot how to dance in the rain
'till you turned forty all you did was complain
Then you took off your shoes
and went back to the sand
I was now the warmth of your child's hand
At forty-three
you spent more time with me
You began
to understand
And when you stood fifty years old
you stayed warm to me even though
at times I was cold
How close we grew
when you turned sixty-two
The breeze was I
that hung your grandchild's kite in the sky
And I'm sorry I made you sad
when I took "the one" away
But I was proud
when you pushed aside that cloud
and cradled 'me' in the sun
for the remainder of our lives...
The Journey
Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys, celebrations and special moments that will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life. The road will not always be smooth; in fact, throughout our travels, we will encounter many challenges. | |

A Life Observed
Only Steps
Down Life Paths
Conscience
darkened stone walls
a man walks deep below
dripping tunnels
colorless; blue-black-grey
he opens his mouth to speak
silver sparks fly from his lips
illuminating the dank and mist-filled catacomb
silver and stark white, falling down around him
shards of golden light flicker through the tunnel
falling like raindrops to sizzle on the cracked floor
the golden light burnishes the cracked edges of broken stone
the silver sparks in white mist hanging in the dead air
the breath of hope
darkness ahead, a breathing blackness
the man's slight form surrounded by silver and gold
he walks forever
the catacomb stretching endlessly before him
as sparks rain down
Journey
with twists and turns, and milestones
passing through varied terrains,depths and altitudes
stages from cradle to gravestone
journey of love is a saga of conflicts,
musical odyssey sojourned, with smiles and tears
strung together in a parody of melodious moments
journey of the sun over celestial expanse
is an arc of light, from the rising dawn to dusk,
painting dancing silhouettes, showering molten gold,
licking dewdrops, rejuvenating lotuses and sunflowers
journey of flowing gentle river-
emerging from a glacier's frozen lips, as a waterfall
flowing on bosom of plains, as boon of fertility
overflowing its dams in rage, to bring ruin as flood
lastly mingling in vastness of the sea to lose itself.
journey of a flower from an unfurled bud,
within curled green palm of calyx
to a blooming blossom crowning a stalk,
spreading fragrance and endowing nectar of reticulate veins
withering away on its throne or being plucked,
to lie in homage at feet of deities in a temple
smile in a bouquet with redolence and colors,
to impart loving greetings in mute beauty
to lie as an epitaph of remembrance on a grave.
journey of a pearl from the womb of an oyster,
lying deep into hurling infinity of ocean-
comes out into the world to spread a smile
of alabaster opalescence, in a ring or a necklace-
drop of moonlight or morning dew, made priceless
journey of a kite made from alms of dead trees,
by dexterous fingers with loving care, to fly high above
with a string tied to its tail, it soars high with vagrant wind
trying to caress clouds and to kiss sun's golden lips,
resenting tied cord that limits altitude of its flight
snap of thread lead to its sad demise,
torn into pieces by fangs of callous draught.
journey of raindrop is a cycle, from earth to skies and back
moisture as vapour forms floating clouds,
condensed into raindrops in cottony bosom of smoke
falls to quench thirst of parched earth,
With orchestra of thunder and lightening
rejuvenating leaves and flowers , washing away dust
and leaves at last, a dangling rainbow in its wake

The Morning Rise
Silence
Yearning for Love
Just Abe Yourself
Scars and scarred of Love
The Sunset
This Is Why We Are Here
I put my head right in front of the blue light of the desktop screen,
my eyes set on various pages, one where the work is done, one where
the world makes friendship with perfect human beings, one where I secretly note
down grocery list and things that I have to finish before it’s too late.
The real windows of the room open to a green garden, a few hummingbirds chase
each other without knowing the world’s favorite words: stress, and to-do list;
for the life of eternity, they just have to be hummingbirds, beautiful
and carefree. I have been thinking: this is why we should be here. To look beautiful,
and untroubled. To call ourselves carefree, like we all are gifted that way.
On my way back home, I stop my car when a group of happy ducklings cross
the road. Their proud mother looks back and gazes at my mirror where
the shiny evening sun watches its reflection once a day. As if it’s a routine.
Sometimes when I do too many things, please people, nurture words like kindness,
caution, family, I wonder if this is why we are here. To tag along with that routine,
and imitate someone else’s biography. To pay back for everything unwanted given
to us. I think it again, and again while sipping the evening tea, and touching old
photographs from the family album. What I often miss. The genuine love.
A letter. A kiss on the forehead right before the most difficult question-answer
round where all my answers will be judged. A salty simple curry when my sore throat
cannot swallow over-dried humors. I want some more, some more of those things.
Like the person who always wants numerous little things to make life a museum.
Maybe this is why we are here. To fulfill those secret wishes that no one has to notice.
To chase them like hummingbirds. And call them yearnings. We are collecting, striding,
looking back with our discontented eyes. We belong because of those longings.
My Silence
My silence is not my weakness,
It’s a pause, sometimes too long
when I listen to better songs on the radio.
My silence is not really an answer,
because I have been a seeker,
with a bag-full questions and an urge to wander.
My silence is not ignorance,
It’s around my knowledge, wisdom, breathlessness
on the last few pages of the thrilling chapter,
and flowing on in this life like a river.
My silence is sound, sound of many things;
song of birds from the moonlit night,
grin of the green tomato on my porch,
music of the metal spoon in my coffee cup
at five o’clock, whisper of the drizzles.
Sometimes so crisp that they make me dance alone.
My silence is a tale, of words
from the world less known, of genuine smiles,
free fallen water that crossed miles, wild waves of pacific,
and cities that never learned to sleep.
My silence is a celebration, of colors,
of flowers of the spring,
cheeks that know unconditional love,
handmade embroideries on my grand-ma’s Saree, and
the crowns of the woodpeckers that make me want
to try harder once again without fears.
My silence is not about leaving,
it’s about being here, brave and conscious,
striving more, embracing some, and knowing it all.
Life the journey
On the way back home
The sun in the rut
A prayer song in the air
At the crossroads
Near my eyes
Two people in rhythm and love
Holding hands
The open sign on the cafe door
On its dark steps
A little girl
Drawing a chalky face
First signs of evening bulbs
A curvy moon up above
No hurry to reach
The ghostly silhouettes of night
And no red signals to stop.

Have a great weekend, friends.
